Hi Deborah, that's interesting because I've always read and heard the Quartz is one of the most durable and tough surfaces you can buy for kitchen counter tops and it literally requires NO maintenance. Yes, it is very expensive though. What counter top would he rather get?

I am not sure what he wants what we have now is a Mosaic floor and counter top to match. I want a flat counter top to work on and it will be easier to clean.
Deborah!
I've listed some of the benefits for quartz. I would just get an estimate before you move forward to see where you would stand on the expenses.

Hi Deborah! I did epoxy over our countertops. I put together a tutorial here! Might be a fun project for you and your husband! With epoxy you can make them look like faux marble or quartz! :) for a fraction of the cost.
Faux paint it to resemble surface you are going for or stained pallet wood, galvanized metal, there are tons of DIY options that are super easy! I did mine in salvaged wood I stained a smoky gray!
Quartz is one of the most durable - but yes - it’s expensive! We’ve done marble look laminate in our kitchen - it takes a little more care - but it’s easy on the budget. https://www.frugalfamilytimes.com/2015/09/when-youre-sick-of-your-old-oak-kitchen.html
