Hi Diane. Deep color? Not sure what that is. We just purchased paint for our kitchen. It's a soft gray/green that goes well with our countertops and back splash. Our plan is to paint the kitchen and then paint our cabinets. We considered going light on upper cabinets, with dark on lower cabinets, but ended up deciding to paint them all the same color. Diane, would you re-post your question and explain what is deep color. I'm sure we all would love to help you DIY.
I have seen a lot of navy lately.

There are paint chip samples available in diy stores and paint companies like Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore...go there and take a look at what pleases you. Take the chip home and put it on you wall to see how you would like it as a main color or an accent color wall.
See what goes well with your cabinets, countertops, and floors.
There are many photos of kitchens with dark colors, online. You need to determine if selecting one of those colors will make you feel claustrophobic... Can your kitchen size withstand intensely dark colors? Do they coordinate with your flooring, countertops, etc.? Will you have adequate lighting?
If you decide to go lighter in the future, be prepared to apply several coats of primer and paint.
I don't know what the 5 hottest deep colors are, but Sherwin Williams has a gorgeous new color of the year featured in this post. It would be stunning in a kitchen. https://thistlewoodfarms.com/before-and-after-bedroom-makeover-with-sherwin-williams-2021-coty/
