How to Remove brick fireplace "seating"?

I like to remove brick "seating" in front of fireplace to create more space in living room Possible,

    Yes, they do it all the time on tv. Just be sure to protect your floors and hang plastic over doorways to limit the amount of dust through the house. Have a big shop-vac handy to vacuum dust frequently.

    Do you plan to fill in the flooring with tile once the raised hearth is removed? There should be something fire proof in front of the fire box if you are burning wood.

      I am not a fireplace fan. Burning wood pollutes the air and too often it hogs up too much of a room to allow for good furniture placement. But it really seems to be a feature that buyers want. Perhaps if you remove the hearth and blend the rest into the room with paint you can free yourself of it somewhat.
