Help us de-emphasive our entertainment equipmenent

Due to the open concept (limited wall space) in the living room our entertainment center with it's numerous components along with its full size speakers (5.1 setup) seem to dominate the 17'x12'x8' space. Any and all suggestions appreciated. Photo's attached.

My son has a similar living area. They put the tv on the wall above the mantel, with all of the wiring behind and down the inside of the wall and back out to one side of the fireplace.They have a small console similar to yours in front of the window with a chair next to it. I'm not sure how they handled their speakers. The room looks so much better without the two competing focal points in the room. The components table is a nice little accent table and adds to the decor while being very functional. Good luck! Sometimes an open floorplan makes it a bit harder to figure out the furniture placement.

@Lou love your paint colour. Looks like a cozy room. I would suggest you move the tv area to the opposite side of the room - wall nearest what looks like an entry door. At the moment it is partially blocking a window, which would be less so in the other corner and there would be less attention drawn to it. Currently that is the first thing, because it is large and dark, that the eye is drawn to. I would suggest over the fireplace if it could be done without cords hanging down. Your couch could be placed in the opposite side of where it is now. This would define the living room vs the dining room and would be more pleasant to look at from the dining room. Chairs would need some adjustment but could likely stay where they are, you will know when you make the changes. Forwarded - From Funnygirl Kitty Hawk, NC you have a great tv,it needs to go above the fireplace,by removing the mirror. I would put the speakers in each side of the room.I would then push the cabinet against the wall by the window. Not sure how to make it wireless but I know it can be done. P.s. I love the yellow paint in the other room

iF YOU CAN, MOUNT THE TV ABOVE THE FIREPLACE AND THE SPEAKERS CAN BE HIDDEN IN FAUZ COLUMNS ON EACH SIDE.

I am one of those person who says never put a TV over the fireplace....But might be good in your case. Just make sure that being over the fireplace does not void the warranty. Rather than on the fireplace, how about in front of the window (behind the couch)? Your couch could be facing the TV with the chairs probably where they are now. If you had an entertainment console with doors, it would hide your equipment/videos, etc.. Glass doors would let your remotes work. We had ours in front of a window and had no trouble with the room being dark and I don't think you would either.

I think this is a modern day dilemma. The men in our life want big screen TV's and many of our older homes are not set up for them. Luckily my husband does not mind a smaller TV screen and that is lucky because our small 1950 ranch home does not have room for anything big like that. I feel very lucky because I don't care for how they look.

If you don't want to put it above the tv - I would suggest using a nice piece of furniture for the stand (I used a pioneer blanket trunk) and getting rid of large speakers - you can buy tiny ones now that do the same thing. I would also suggest moving your love seat over and using it as a room divide between dining room and putting your TV where the love seat is now. Best of luck!!

Well--I believe I would put the TV over the mantle and use a sound bar w/it. New homes put the components in closets (not sure if that's feasible). Good luck.
