Ideas for TV Wall Cutout?

by David

Hi all, I have this wall cutout in my living room that is made for a TV however it's rather small from an old design that I don't know what to do with it. The cutout only fits about a 37' TV so I mounted a TV next to it but don't know what to use the cutout for. Can you share some ideas on how to decorate around the tv and alcove to make it look better? Greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance.

Glasshelfs with LED Strip in the back, so the Glas glows in diffrent color as you are in the mood for that would be the european way to go about it. You can display anything in it the right way!

I would make thick faux floating shelves in black to match the fireplace surround and paint the back wall of the alcove an accent colour or the beige marble colour of the fireplace then use it as a display area or bar area. If you use it as a bar area I would make the shelves with slotted bottoms to slide stem ware into for them to hang and add back lighting. If you recess the shelves back a bit you could put glass magnetic doors on the front, the kind that are used on stereo cabinets, which would be good if you have young children.

I like the floating shelves idea a lot. But you also can use it to display a nice piece of art. You can also use those picture lights from Ikea to give it some umph!

I would also paint the inside to contrast the art. *you can use those stick on under lights at the top...for display purposes.

I would put in a small silk tree and add some little led lights to the tree. I have a silk cherry tree and have done this and it really looks beautiful both during the day and the night. Then the area looks like it was made like that on purpose!

I would put a removable wallpaper with some type of underwater scene in the back and put a small fish aquarium there.

Put shelving in it and use it for books or nick nacks and pictures or leave it alone, paint the back a different color and put a huge potted plant or flowers in it. The room needs some contrasting color and warmth.

I agree it needs some warm colors. The shelves are a good idea with a colorful mosaic design on the wall using tile or paint...the plants would add some life to the room too!

Mirrored backing with shelves and light airy plants. Place hidden stick up lights up top and turn them on at night

Add glass shelves and take advantage of the fact that the niche is wired to add accent lighting. I also love Nancyfuller idea of a bar with mirrored back and granite (or maybe quartz) counter.

It looks like you're using it to house media equipment for the TV? If you need to be able to use a remote for the components (or not, I guess), you could cover it with some type of decorative grating, painted the same color as your walls. If you're super handy, turn the grating into a hinged door to easily access the equipment.

Outdated or not, I like it and you have quite a few of lovely suggestions listed above. I have a cut out in my kitchen which hold my microwave. Love it and get lots of compliments on it. I am currently updating mine by making the wall stainless steel.

Hi, What about getting one of those tv brackets to fit inside so the tv sits outside of it in the middle then a shelf for the underneath and over the top maybe then you could have a mirror over fireplace instead.
