Wanda sinnema on Apr 11, 2016I'd purchase slide out metal shelves/racks. You anchor them with screws. I got some at Home Depot or Lowes for all the bottom cabinets.. LOVE'em.. Come in various styles and widths.. You are lucky my cupboards over the frig are the 12 inches deep, against the wall.. I'm short and even with a ladder so hard to reach.Helpful Reply

Debra Grieve on Apr 11, 2016I agree. Slide out shelves will work great. You'll still need a step ladder though. Put less often used items up there. That's what I do, mine are only 12" deep as well.Helpful Reply

Handan & Greg @ The Navage Patch on Apr 11, 2016In our kitchen cabinets our top shelves were half shelves as previous home owners designed it that way so they could reach the things at the back of the bottom shelves. Of course that used to cut from storage space. So my husband (Greg) made some slide out shelves for those cabinets to increase our storage space. He made a very detailed tutorial if you'd like to see it. You can find that post on on our Hometalk profile or if you would like to see all the details you can find it here: http://thenavagepatch.com/space-hacker-diy-slide-out-shelves/ Best of luck with your project! - HandanHelpful Reply

Rena Noele on Apr 11, 2016For my large over-the-fridge slide outs, I keep lightweight items. I didn't need heavy duty drawer glides for paper towels, toilet paper and plastic containers. A 1-2 step stool, that is folded up, next to the fridge, is enough to reach everything.Helpful Reply

Jane Harriss Naus on Apr 11, 2016I LOVE my over the fridge cabinet - we added simple pot lid & office organization pcs & put all our trays, muffin tins, & large ovenware vertically. I added a slim fit step stool in the space right beside the fridge for easy use!Helpful Reply

Merri Jo Ounan on Apr 11, 2016I use several of those "grabby thingys" that my in-laws loved so much and a slim, fold-up step stool. The grabber came in handy recently when I dropped a sock between the washer & dryer!Helpful Reply

Pam on Apr 11, 2016Dividers for cookie sheets, cutting boards, etc. This was an option when we remodeled our kitchen but is easily doable with 1/2" birch boards or look into Rev-a-shelf.Helpful Reply

Jean Myles on Apr 11, 2016I had my bakeware above the fridge but found that I used them more than I thought. My husband removed the slats and reinstalled them in a lower cabinet. Now above the fridge I keep my fondue pot and accessories with my Christmas and Thanksgiving dishes. I'm 5 foot 0 and have a 2 step stool hanging on the inside of the pantry door.Helpful Reply

Julies1949 on Apr 11, 2016you can retrofit with a pull down shelf. When you open the door the shelf comes down and out towards you to clear the fridge.Helpful Reply
