If you have wall space, hang a pegboard or wire rack for storage of pots & pans, utensils and even bags of produce. If there's space for a rolling cart, that's another good option.
look UP... hang things like pots and pans.. hang baskets that can hold onions, potatoes, etc..
open shelving on any available wall space.. also use the inside of all your cupboard doors to put small shelves to hold things like spices, sandwich bags, etc

The point is, they got creative with other areas of the house, while keeping the crockpot, mixer, etc. tucked away, yet still accessible.
