What kind of storage to use in DEEP camper pantry ?

Pantry openings are 17" tall, 18" wide and 28" deep. The non movable shelves are all the way out to door opening. There are 5 openings like this!! I have tried Metal stand up shelf but still can see or reach items without pulling out most things in front!! Keep in mind, these are regular household cabinets without the little holes inside to move shelves. Inset Microwave on one side of pantry and refrigerator on the other so really thin walls!! These photos do not have all the items in them. Thanks in advance for all ideas!!

I use a cardboard box the size of the cabinet but cut it only 5" high and use it as a drawer.

If you can find clear plastic bins to fit the space, you can fill the bin and pull it out almost like a drawer. That is what I did for higher shelves that I can't reach very well.

I installed slide out drawers using glides purchased from Rockler Supply.

the slides from Rockler screw down into the shelf. Not into the sides.

  • We use baking sheets. Try and find some (or if you are lucky enough to have a metal worker friend - have custom made), that fit the width and depth of your cabinets. Then pile all your stuff on them and just pull the tray out to get to the stuff in the back. We also use plastic baskets for smaller loose items and spices, make sure you use stackable ones to make your life easier.

If you are not concerned about additional weight, I would make boxes to replace the shelves and install them with the sliding hardware. If weight is an issue, use the wire baskets from a closet organizer system

Our trailer has a skinnier pantry than yours. Deep and useless. So I am going to have my husband make a slide out pantry. The top and bottom will probably have to be plywood, so there is something to screw into. Not sure yet how the walls will be constructed to hold up the top and bottom. BUT....the drawer slides can be screwed into the plywood...Picture a drawer on it's side....

IN the second row of pix, is one to give you sort of an idea. Instead of pulling out one shelf at a time, you would pull the whole thing out. There is enough wasted space in a trailer without wasting more in the 'pantry'. You also need to put on your 'think WAY outside the box' hat for this sort of problem.

I think having at least one drawer slide on the top of the whole thing will help with weight of canned goods etc. And maybe have 2 drawer slides on the bottom of the whole thing.

That's what I was thinking too. But you don't have to buy pre-made drawers. The wire cubes you assemble yourself might be an easy material to make your own. [They come as flat squares] One woman made her 'in floor battery holders' from old dishwasher 'drawers'. That's what I mean by thinking outside the box!

DF, take a look at my storage solution. I use these in the garage, under the sink in the kitchen, bath and laundry room - and they are FREEEEEE!
