You can put an over-the-stove shelf? This one is on Amazon. .
That is just the way of the beast. I had a three drawer plastic bin hanging around and I put it next to the stove and put things like rice and pasta side dishes and mashed potato packages in it. I use the bottom drawer to put some household hand tools in so that they are handy and not in a drawer with kitchen things. You can put something decorative on top of it to make it higher. I put mountable metal holders I found at Bed Bath and Beyond to put most used spices and rubs into hide the opening at the top of the stove. I have had it this way for three years with out a problem with heat affecting anything. It wouldn't have been so bad, except the stove is at the end right across from the kitchen door that everyone always uses.
Hi Yvoorhees, you could make @ sliding shelf rack. Other Home Talkers have done this. My mother did it to. They are on wheels, so they slide in and out easily. They are allso gteat space savers to! Kay Adelaide Australia
You could a build a little shelf to cover the back of the gap and it would make a great place for spices!
Have your thought about putting a shelf there, one that is fire resistant?
