I'm a big fan of hidden storage. Drawers underneath beds, linen chests under benches, that sort of thing. I've been slowly adding a lot of hidden storage to my house and it's really helped make up for the lack of closet space.
After going through all your stuff, start using your walls for storage with shelves, peg boards, hooks, and cabinets if you can. Going vertically frees up a ton of space.
