What’s the best way to grow grass in sandy soil?

I live in the mountains of Virginia. Unbelievable but my soil has quite a bit of sand and green mold in the woods that surrounds my home. I’ve found it difficult to grow grass.
Many help would really be appreciated!

If it is too sandy then it probably drains too well, and would need constant feeding. Grass doesn't grow well in shade especially under trees...........

It's moss, not mold. Chances are that if there is only moss growing there it is because there isn't enough sunlight for grass. Sandy soil probably is not the issue since my grass in Michigan grew great in soil that was so sandy it would wear lawn mower blades away. Moss can be beautiful stuff and I encourage it to grow in the shadier portions of my yard. Never need the lawn mower except for the occasional weed. You may even consider introducing new varieties of moss. Check out mossacres.com.
