Alternative to Roundup?

Any herbicides out there to use in place of Roundup since it is a known potential carcinogen?

    Hi Sharon,
I'm assuming you want to get rid of some weeds. Boiling water is very effective, just don't pour it on anything you want to keep. I hope that helps you. Wishing you the best.

I kill weeds two ways - first, pour boiling water directly on the weeds to kill them instantly. Second, mix 1 part water to 1 part white vinegar and spray on the weeds. They should die within a week.

Absolutely! We use this weed killer, but be careful where you spray as it will kill any plant. For pets, children and the environment it is harmless however. Here is the recipe: 1 Gallon white vinegar, 2 cups Epsom Salts, 1/4 cup Dawn blue dish soap. Apply after the dew is evaporated, weeds will be dead by night fall. BE CAREFUL of other plants you do not want to kill. Safe otherwise. Hope this helps

Vinegar should be used with discretion. It will sterilize the soil where it soaks in and nothing will grow for a while. If you want to use any of the vinegar solutions, paint it on the weed stumps after you cut them off, it will get to the roots easier and quicker and not affect the soil or plants around it, yet kill the weeds.

The info about roundup is bogus. NOT true, only in such unlikely possibilities is it possible. Roundup is NOT stable around dirt. The amount that reaches the ground, is non detectable in about 5 days, so for a plant to pick it up is impossible. So go with what works. Roundup is absorbed by the leaves, transferred to the root, and kills the plant, then contact with dirt, completely neutralizes it. That's why when making a NEW garden of any kind over a lawn, you spray roundup to kill all the grass, wait 5 days or a week, then rototill, and the grass will not come back, nor can you find a trace of roundup.
