How can I keep ants from getting into my hummingbird feeder?

I have it hanging on a 4 foot long angled extension rod that is posted on our deck railing. They come from all over and travel up the rod even after I have sprayed it.

Try spraying with mint water. Ants hate it. I bought a small bottle of mint then put a few drops of mint in a spray bottle filled with water shake and spray away. I'm not sure if it will bother the birds. -

Put vaseline on the rod. Ants get stuck and can't move further. This also keeps squirrels away since they slide off.- See 1 previous

We bought some hummingbird feeders that have half inch water containers on the top. Fill the water container , the ants think they can get into the feeder, but they drown. No more ants in the sugar water!!!They eventually stop going there. None this year. -

you can buy an ant moat from your local bird feeding supply store, hang above hummingbird feeder and fill with water. The ants will crawl down the wire but won't get to the feeder, thus getting trapped in the moat. -

Ants cannot crawl on fish line. Try using it to hang your feeders
