Use Diatomaceous Earth. This is pet friendly and kid friendly. Sprinkle all over your mattress and carpet and let sit for a few days. I would vacuum and then repeat. This should kill them.

& I would take all of your linens and go to a Laundromat and use their largest machines with the hottest water settings and wash them several times there, pillows included. Check around all the piping on the mattress, including your head/footboard. They can get in any cracks. If there are any small things like stuffed animals or small throw pillows you can put them in a freezer bag and freeze them for at least 24 hrs to kill any of the bed bugs. Google it when you have time to sit for a while and read. There are a lot of sites that can give you good info w/out having to use harmful, toxic sprays.

Also, if you leave p.j.'s or any clothes on your bed for a long time you want to wash those as well! Be vigilant about every little thing. It seems tiresome and easy to skip things but if you really take the time to clean everything it will be worth it in the long run. Nothing worse than having to do all of this a second time.
