Apply hot peppers flakes
Depends how big. I have Schnauzers use the looped metal wire ornamental fence. Now if squirrel other side all bets off. My sister has Boxer. She used the electric zap fence for one week then left it up disconnected for a month. That was it. Mine would need it permamently they do not learn.
If your pet is a 'pet rock' it belongs in the garden! Otherwise, lay down some chicken wire, no one likes stepping on it barefoot. You can spray paint it to blend in.
Why? I have 6 dogs and 6 cats. They need outdoor space too. Just build little fences or use pepper flakes around areas you do not want them to trample. I just spent time training mine - they know their boundaries.
I live in a wooded neighborhood with lots of squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits. Our dogs will do anything to get at them when they run the chain link fence, even hop a four foot fence I put around by veggie garden without touching the fence. I ended up putting on another layer of four feet and I now still have all the plants. I doubt you have dogs that aren't that big, but they are capable of damage. You can put up a short fence to try to give them the message, but when it comes to getting after critters that are all bets are off. Otherwise you may be able to train your dog to not jump over shorter fences.
Put up a fence.
