The boxes of cornbread mix that have sugar in them will take care of them. Sprinkle generously on the mound, the ants take it in to all the others and they should die. Each box should do a number of mounds.
We have had good luck the the AMDRO line of fire ant products
First boil a teapot full of water and poor it down the hole of the mound. Next pour a full 8 oz box of baking soda into the same hole. The hot water will sent many ants scurrying but will kill most of the colony. The baking soda will remain in the hole for returning ants.
Pour hot vinegar into the ant hill. You can do the same with weeds, but if it gets on something you want to keep it'll kill that too
You can get rid of ants very easily. We tried everything from poison to bait and hated putting out anything so bad for the environment. It did not work anyway. Then an old timer told us about corn meal. They take it back to the nest and it kills the colony. Put it on the mound, if you see a few ants after the cornmeal is gone, add more. We seldom have to add more. We use Jiffy because it is sweet. It is safe for kids, pets, and the environment, but best of all it WORKS.
my dad had a recipe for ant killer...you should be able to find it online. It has borax and sugar ...it kills ants and they return to the nest where it kills the ants in the nest. I'll see if I can find it, but look yourself too
I'm planning to try the cornmeal method. But, like Marty, I have had good luck with Amdro products. They make an ant bait in a little spike you stick down into the ground nearby an ant hill, they take the bait back to the colony and it kills them. There is also a granular bait by Amdro that you can sprinkle around.
