The bugs eat the leaves of my Hosta's and the weeds choke out the plant.

The grass also chokes out the plant. I used vinegar but the weeds and grass still came back.icon

slugs are probably eating the leaves-you might just have to pull the weeds and be sure to get the root you can buy slug stuff at Home Deport or Lowes

I read about slugs being the number one problem for Hostas. If you break up eggshells and sprinkle them on the ground around the plants it will help because slugs don't like the sharp edges of the eggshells.

Thank you I have done that before. Hard to accumulate the shells don't eat eggs alot or often😄

Will putting mulch around the plant discourage the slugs??

not really-slugs like hosta too much and they will hide under the mulch! If you have a lot of hosta, get the 'slug stuff' if only one or two plants, buy some 'cheap' beer, place in a shallow plate and the slugs will crawl in-they can't swim! messy if the plants get eaten from the roots underground-then chipmunks are having dinner
