How do you stop the rain from coming down...unfortunately...you don't! These are known as cluster flies...in a dry year there are fewer...in a wet year, such as the one we've had this year, they are like the plague! Fortunately, they have a short shelf life...a season if you will. They die off fairly quickly as in a few of weeks..and the best thing you can do is to keep one of those hand held vacuum cleaners around to clean up the dead bodies. Our cluster fly season is nearly over (Central Ontario Canada). Now it's the lady bugs...and unlike cluster flies, some of them bite!
Set off a whole house bomb
Try mixing Pine Sol & water in a spray bottle (about 2/3 Pine Sol & 1/3 water) & spray, spray, spray. Flies hate the smell. I have used this home remedy for several years now. Flies hate the smell of Pine Sol. We even carry it with us when when we are serving food outdoors, & spray down table food will be served on, & area around where food will be prepared & the flies stay away.
Fill a quart/gallon zip lock bag 1/3 full with water, drop two/three shiny pennies into it. Hang on glass/metal (vibration conductor ) space around gathering. It mimics hornets nest and most insect will stay clear.
flies means some rodent is dead. Find how the rodent is getting in.
Cabins I'm in one and flies are a problem especially in the fall . I've used a vacuum and the fly guts rot the vacuum hose . I've put screen along the outside edge of the cabin and that helped abour 70% . I also have a bag with Penny's in it not sure how that's doing, have fly bags and they stink , wasps are a problem too ! Maybe I should stuck on the outside and be done with rustic living .
Oregon has had a wetter spring and summer then usual and flies just come with the extra moisture.
Here is a link to the best fly trap we found and it also turns out to be what our natural pest control company uses also.

Find out where they are entering and fix that first. Repealing flies won't do much good until their enterance is blocked.

Remove all food including fruit. Spray the home with Fly Spray and then vacate for as long as poss before returning.
Hello, hope this helps you out. Unless you have an area in your dwelling where the flies are breeding, they probably are coming in from outside during the non-winter months and wintering inside. Even the tightest homes have tiny cracks that flies utilize. They look for a place to spend the winter, and an attic is often the perfect spot. You might notice that on warmer days, the flies seem to come out from nowhere. This is because heat enlivens them and coaxes them out of hiding.
Flies come in through holes in screens or tiny cracks around the doors, windows, attic vents or eaves. Caulk these areas and replace damaged screens. In the fall, many flies are looking for a place to pass the winter, so get your house set up before they set up house.
Sanitization removes the flies’ food supply. Make sure your drains have no food material trapped inside. Relocate and clean your tightly lidded garbage or recycling containers. Frequently remove pet waste in your yard. Move compost areas. Search out any other places where flies could be breeding. Reduce flies in your area by using outdoor traps that lure flies away from your dwelling.
To eliminate flies that have already found their way in, use a vacuum cleaner for sluggish flies, but plug up the tube so they can’t crawl out. Indoor traps are available in all price ranges and types, from fly paper to discreet, color-coordinated, UV-lighted wall sconces.
Buying a fly trap might work🤔
Locatee and fix any open areas where they might be getting in such as torn screens. On a day when you will be away for a few hours hang the sticky fly traps in various spots in your home then dispose of them when you arrive back home. Vacuum up any dead ones left on the floor. You might try placing a few cotton balls saturated with pine oil in various spots as well if you don't find the odor offensive.
