Spray them down with Deep Woods Off from head to toe. I have my grandsons to cover their face with a bandana and hold their breath while I spray them.
Keep every inch of them covered when playing in woods, grass, etc. Tuck pants into socks, wear hats, and repellent.
If in the country & it's possible to keep them, guineas esp & free range poultry are wonderful tick eradicators without using any chemicals or sprays of any kind. They did an awesome job of cleaning up our property!!! Can't remember last time I even saw one.
Spray them with Mexican vanilla. I've used it for 25 years without a single bite of any kind. It must be 100% vanilla extract, no additives, and so much cheaper than what we can buy here. I just use it straight but you can Google recipes for natural repellents.
