Fire-pit and back yard drainage. Any ideas?
Backyard seems to have a tendency to collect water in half the yard where the other half is bone dry. The water is sitting almost like I am creating a tiny marsh back there. I really want to put a fire pit in this area but not with out dealing first with the water as it would put a really damper on doing fires. We live in a rocky area and digging is near impossible passed a couple inches. Any ideas?

You can raise the elevation or install a weeping tile pipe and run it off to the dryer area. Dig a trench, put in landscape fabric, top with crushed rock,, install the pipe with the holes down and then cover again with more rock. You can lay more fabric over top and then lay the sod back down.
Oh I can make this easy peasy for you!!! Get a couple of weeping willows to plant in the flooded area. They LOVE wet areas and will drink up your excess water. They do drop long branches (skinny) in fall that make a mess but if you wait for them all to drop, it's not bad to rake up. I used to trim mine once, maybe twice a season. (dangerous I know) I just held up my hedge trimmer and trimmed as high as I could reach. They looked beautiful with their nice, neat haircuts!
