How bid is your deck? How is it shaped?
Inviting decor might include comfortable patio seating, umbrella or sail for shaded area if needed, strings of party lights, barbecue area and there is a possibility ( if safe) of a small tabletop fire pits for S'mores and the flame ambience.
Wireless speaker could provide background music. Seasonal or themed party decorations can supplement your basics. Planters with annuals or foliage or can add a punch of color and texture.
You might want to get over to Pinterest or Houzz for some visuals to help decide on color choices and possible designs to suit your needs.
I love all the ideas above! You could also add a small patio pond or fountain. I have a patio pond on my home's patio that we keep floating plants and goldfish in. We love sitting by our pond. http://momhomeguide.com/my-new-patio-pond-a-patio-pond-giveaway/
How big is your back deck? I, and two of my sisters, have porches that we all love and get a lot of use from. But they are all different although we all live where the winters are harsh. One sister has a south facing porch enclosed with patio doors that are screened only in summer. The other sister's porch can not be used in winter although it has windows all around that are both screens and storm windows. We have a screened in only porch. The similarity with us all is that the emphasis is on comfortable seating. My 7' X 14' porch has a wicker rocker, two rattan chairs with fat cushions and springs, and an iron settee with fat cushions seat and back. For an open deck situation, wicker can be very comfortable and water proof if it rains, also canvas chairs like director chairs are comfortable. So are hammocks and lounges. Small tables for food and drink are handy and a larger table to dine on would be nice. I favor decorations that are seasonal and not occasion specific except for very, very special occasions. The emphasis should be on relaxation, camaraderie, and comfort. If your deck is attached to your house it would be nice if a shade or rain shield is in place.
Bright colors! Spray paint is great and they have such fun cheerful colors for summer- go check them out. I changed up a set of lawn furniture to bright colors with each piece a different color and it really comes together as fun!
