What finish do I use for outside door?

Hi Marsha, every outside project I've ever attempted with paint only turned out well (for more than a year or two) if I used a heavy duty oil based paint such as Rustoleum

Go to either Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams and purchase paint for an exterior door. They will also be able to help you with steps to prep your door. I have found their products and advice to be far superior to the big box stores.

Any thing with varnish semigloss

For protection on outside finishes, the best would be to use a gloss or semi-gloss latex acrylic paint.

All major brands offer a line of “exterior” paint, which are made to resist the weather. I used Behr and Benjamin Moore for some outdoor projects and am happy with both.
