Of what, where, & to accomplish what?
I think I would just lighten everything up...maybe a soft gray on the walls and built ins...and a white wash on the stone.
the farm house look is there.white wash the walls and built in, however the floor will also have to be taken into consideration.
You have a lot of brown color going on and since you already have eggshell color on other walls, maybe think about white-washing the stone fireplace to break up the brown on that wall. A nice big area rug with coordinating colors would help pull it together. If you carpenter handy and don't need the low bookcases beside the fireplace, I would try to find matching pine wood as the paneling and cover that opening. Then you would have a nice big wall for a focal point in the room. It's really a nice room from what I see. Don't over-think it. You have a great headstart with what the room is.
I didn't even think about white washing the stones. Thank You all! I'll definitely be doing that. I want to keep the shelves but not that color. I have an area rug, multicolored like. I really don't want the labelling but since just bought the home, I can't afford to drywall just yet but eventually will be.
I was thinking of a little taker color on the shelves, floor & mantle. Or do y'all think if I do the fireplace a white wash & light grey walls, should I do shelving etc a different light color?
It all reminds me of the house we bought. The wood made everything feel so dark. We painted our paneling and whitewashed our stone fireplace and it made a huge difference! You could do white walls and paint the built in a different color for an accent.
Definitely clean & repaint the stonework.
Paint the wood panels in a color that suits you. Then, select either a contrasting color for the vertical "stripes" in the wall, or do the same color in a different finish ( such as satin finish for the wall but semi gloss for the vertical lines) to add a little dimension and interest.
Do a complimentary color for the mantel & built-in shelves.
If you decide to do the floor, you can rent a sander from your home improvement store & stain it using traditional colors or tinted stain for an almost painted appearance.
Good luck, & I hope you share your finished work with us!
I appreciate everyone's ideas. Thank you so much! I'm sure I'll be asking for more input as I go along redoing our new home. We are finally almost done & should be doing the final closing works soon. I'm very excited to get in there to start working on my projects! I'll post the after photos asap. 😁😘
