How can I turn a coffee table & end tables into farmhouse chic?

My husband and I have recently purchased what I refer to as "my heart & soul Home". A vintage 1937 Cottage style home. I am trying to create a farmhouse/shabby chic look throughout. He brought to our marriage, two end table and a coffee table that are very traditional. They have brown faux wood legs and the tops are some kind of fake marble. More like plastic. I need to find a way to change them up and create more of a farmhouse look. Possibly removing the tops and replacing with distressed wood? Maybe chalk paint the legs and glaze them ? Any ideas DIY'ers? Any and all would be so appreciated!

I think your ideas are good ones.
A quick coat of chalk paint will transform those tables easily. Put a nice big basket or rustic looking crate/box under the table for storage and it will add to the country look as well.

You may end up spending more on updating them, then buying real wood ones at a thrift shop.
Chalk paint is great stuff. You could apply pallet wood to the top...most pallets are free!
