How much is TOO MUCH painted furniture in my 15x15 ft bedroom?

I have two side-by-side mahogany oriental armoires on one wall,, matching mahogany bedside tables, a ladies desk I painted silver and use as a makeup table, and a hideous oak chest of drawers I either need to paint or replace. I don't want to paint the armoires or bedside tables. Will it look odd to paint the chest of drawers silver, too? How much is too much?

  • All depends on your taste. I have stained furniture in the same room with painted furniture - a rather eclectic mix. If you like it then it works! Your house you do what you like.

I agree, it is your home, whatever makes you happy.

How about an aged silver finish? I would base coat it a grey satin darker than the silver after sanding that oak grain down, then I would dry brush the silver over it going in one direction. Sand again and distress the areas that an old piece would wear like around knobs, drawer edges, top edge. You could also do a nice stencil pattern to really make it spectacular by using a brighter silver for the stencil, top coat all with satin non-yellowing top coat.

It is your home, so you should put whatever you like in there. As long as the space is comfortable for you, that is all that matters.

Since you are debating about replacing the dresser, I would paint it first. I don't do a lot of matching in my house, and find if it's a color that doesn't clash with what's around it, and is pretty, it works. I use shades of blue for accent colors in my downstairs and they work well together. Figure out your color palette and go from there. Pick colors that make you happy. The dresser can always go somewhere else if it doesn't work in that room.

I think you need to please your decor colors. If you like it, that is what matters. Try drawing a rough draft of your bedroom, use crayons or colored pencils and see if you like the look, if not try using another color you would like. Use throw pillows and throws on your bed to pull in the silver and maybe a teal color to bring your look all together. When you enter your room, your eyes should not be drawn to the silver, but should want to flow to take in the whole room. Make the room your own!

I agree with all of the above comments. The bedroom is the perfect place to do this. The current trend is to no longer have everything matching , so go for it! You can always change the colours later if you tire of the finishes. As Cynthia said, you can always move the dresser (or any other piece) elsewhere.

Sliver bedroom furniture is in, go ahead and paint away but remember to add splash color through the comforter or walls and pillows and rugs and decortive items📌👍🏻
