How to update wrought iron chairs?

I inherited wrought iron dining set. Not my style at all. Thought I could paint the iron and reupholster seats but not sure if thats enough. Maybe reupholster the seat and back....of maybe the whole chair?? Or am I making too much work and it would still look bad? I would do it for wooden chair but not sure about the wrought iron. Any suggestions would be fantastic. Thanks.

Painting the iron works and new upholstering the chair seat would make it look like a new chair. Keep the paint color and fabric simple yet elegant but perhaps a little brighter with an accent color in the pattern.
Love the possibilities for these chairs. Scrub down and sand any pitted parts. Pick an upholstery fabric and coordinate a color for the metal. Spray paint the metal. Then use a clear coat. I would leave the backs open. Very easy.
I think it depends on your decor, your taste and the fabric you choose.

Hi Rebecca,
If you want to keep the chairs, I'd suggest cleaning the iron up well. Removing the seat and painting the iron black. Black seems to be the best way to show off the ironwork. Then recover the seat in a fabric of your choice. Many people are using bright colors that contrast beautifully with the black iron. I think doing that will help you see the beauty of the chairs. I hope that helps. Wishing you the best. -Linda
If you really don't like the style I would suggest selling it on Craigslist or FB Marketplace. It would be easy to reupholster the seat in a fabric of your choosing, and spray paint the metal frame with Rustoleum spray paint for metal. It would be much more difficult to upholster the back of the chair or the whole chair. Or you could use it until you find a set you like and then sell or donate it. Best wishes.
I did a similar project and spray pained the metal and re-covered the seats. It totally transformed the set! You can do it!!
You can do SO MUCH with these! If you want a more contemporary look , you can spray the frame a pewter, copper or other metallic paint and upholstery the seats in a wide, shiny stripe...for a nautical, contemporary or stylish look.
Rebecca, your wrought iron is really beautiful. Painting it would make a big difference. Depending on your decor you could even distress it for a more rustic look. Even do a faux distressed copper look. Upholstry choices are endless and could really coordinate with your room. I say go for it! Good luck.
