How would you refinish this piece, it has a matching round table? Thx

Question

It's a family piece, Canadian Roxton maple hutch with base, made in 1970's. I'm looking for ideas on refinishing this & matching colonial table (table has 4 spindle legs- round/oval top.) What color should I paint it? Stain it? White wash? 
I like neutral, warm tone walls. Floors will be cherry or darker type wood. Natural or cream color on parson chair covers.

Since you are opting for a darker floor, my opinion would be to strip the piece and restain in a slightly lighter color of your floor.

Because it feels a little country a white flat paint I think would be very lovely. However, there is always the stain option, more work then paint though, from the picture it looks like the factory finish is still on it. You can try sanding it first before stripping, but it will probably need to be stripped before you sand it and stain it. Or, perhaps, with the darker wood floors, it might be nice to leave it bare wood with just a coat of poly on it?

IF IT WAS ME,I WOULD DO IT ALL IN A HIGH GLOSS WHITE....MY FRIEND DID A MAPLE SUITE IN IT AND WOW! (HER HARDWOOD FLOOR WAS DONE ALSO HIGH GLOSS SHELAC AS WELL. LOOKS AWESOME!

You don't find solid maple very often!  So I would strip and re-stain in a suitable color.  When you are lucky enough to have a 'set', please don't overlook the possibility that a family treasure should retain its original character.  Sometimes all it needs is innovative staging!

Hmmm not knowing you this is difficult but either remove the other glass in the door. Replace with chicken wire or a sheer curtian. If you must do something else with it I'd do a very thin pickling of a lite green with a slightly darker green on the trim. Maybe change the knobs. On the table the same just accent the legs with the darker green like maybe on every indent. On the top the edge of the table darker green.

I know Roxton maple isn't en vogue right now but I just have a feeling it will come around and be sought after. Do you have room to store it, then you can maybe get something for a really good price that won't be a sacrifice to paint.

I know that you could use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and have a lovely project. You can mix her colors to come up with a custom color . However even though I am not hesitant to paint over wood I MIGHT have trouble with this piece as it is lovely and possibly a family heirloom.

How about a dark stain, looks like to good of wood to cover with paint. Also could just remove the glass doors and use top as shelves
