Paint the furniture
You can spray paint wicker but otherwise it is what it is. If you don't like the look of wicker you should list it on Craigslist and buy something you do like.

If the headboard is a flat piece, try padding with materials ie; foam, batting, then cover with a fabric you like. A little diamond tuck and roll pattern works great. The internet is a good place to look for specifics on diy projects. Just another option.
In the past I've painted wicker furniture. Even a simple slipcover can update a headboard. Pick a color you love and try it out on one piece. A paint sprayer worked best with my wicker. I only have the end tables left from the set, since that was years ago, but, they still look great (I did mine in a deep blue with a lacy stencil in turquoise - I used a paper doily for the stencil).
