Why mess up the table...why not make a platform for it to sit on? Build a platform with an edge around the top to hold the table into place and then set a couple of baskets underneath to hold coffee supplies...extra cups, canisters with coffee, sugar, sweeteners, tea bags, etc. Make a regular coffee station out of it! Paint it the color of your walls and it won't be obtrusive.

Or make a tray-type top: build a frame out of 1x2s--hopefully that will be sturdy enough, if not go to 2 bys, either way you'll need cross pieces for support--lay 1x4s over the frame and add some kind of feet to it, round balls, whatever you can find that appeals. Be sure and use some kind of cushion between the feet and the tabletop. That way you save the integrity of the original table; it is a lovely piece.

Please don't ruin a lovely table.

I definitely like the idea of a platform! Then later on you can use the table elsewhere...love your coffee bar idea!

I agree with Jeanette. It was my first thought as well. Two shelves would be very useful and you could easily gain the desired height.

Personally, I would make one or two raised decorative Butler's trays with handles that fit on the top. That way, I could take one or both to another room when needed, like for a party or Sunday brunch. You could make one long one, but carrying it maybe an issue.

Think there is too much messing around to make this into what you want. Why not look for something more suited to the purpose which you could also put castors on for moving about.

Lovely as it is, wouldn't mess with it at all.

Thank you all for the great ideas and feedback; but I will just be looking for something else but will be painting this beautiful table. And try to sell it... Or maybe end up keeping it and use it for something else

If you were to paint it, polish the knobs, paint it black, but the top could be a white marble foax finish. To add some height build a box for the top but place holes in the back of the box for electrical outlets (for the coffee maker etc). This table does look short, is that why you wanted to add some height?

Colleen yes this table is short; it's 26 inches In height I believe
  • If the legs can be removed, you can just add new in the height you want. We've used stair newels to make our own custom legs, cheap and easy.
