Absolutely! Sand with fine grit sandpaper. Prime and paint with paint manufactured for use on metal. Here's a video with great info

Yes you can paint exterior metal doors. You don't mention whether it is a steel door or an aluminum door. There would be different procedures for the aluminum door-priming and using an oil based paint for example. Here is some information that can help you.

Sand and Wash
Clean then dry well
Prime Paint (touch up as needed).
Is this exterior door on the south side? The metal heats up like an oven and, over time, bakes the paint right off the door.
Of course you can! Prep work is key to a professional result. Here are some sites with step by step instructions to get you started.

Yes,but it maybe suggested not to paint on hot sun days as paint might streak on a metal surface. Prep and proper timing might yield the most pleasing results.
Hello JR,
Use the appropriate undercoat and top coat for the metal of the door. Aluminium etc..........Good luck!
Hi! It's easier if you can take it down to clean and paint it. Clean thoroughly with a TSP substitute like Krud Kutter. Rinse and dry completely. Make any repairs, sand. Prime with a product like Kilz, and paint using an appropriate paint for what the door is made of. For example, I like Rustoleum for metal doors. Good luck!
You can paint with a good latex paint. I primed my first. Or you can paint with Rustoleum spray paint. I did that to a door in another house and it lasted 10 years.
