Hi Avril, it depends on the type of paint. If it's water-based you can soak the pot in a dish of water and scrub with a soft brush (a toothbrush or something similar should work). If that doesn't soften or remove the paint, try soaking the painted areas in rubbing alcohol and see if that softens the paint.

If the paint is acrylic, you may be able to scrape it off with a utility knife, or if it completely painted over, a graffiti remover might do the job.
Another way is to try to remove the paint with a paint remover, Citri Strip is non-toxic and works well.
Or if the paint looks like it wants to chunk off the pot, you could use a putty knife followed up with an orbital sander with medium grade of about 80 grit. Then use a finer grade sand paper to smooth out any marks left by the coarser sand paper.
From there wipe it off and it is ready for what you want to do to it.
Hot, soapy water and a wire brush should do it.
Hello. I would start with a warm soapy soak and see if I can help break the paint bond.
Scrub clay ones with sandpaper and ceramic ones you can use paint remover.
I would try Citristrip stripper. Putty knife for scraping off and a green kitchen scrubby for scrubbing off
Here's a post that might help https://www.hunker.com/13423998/how-to-remove-paint-from-terracotta
Citri-Strip will work well for your proect. Apply per the instructions, wrap lightly with a plastic wrap or bag and let the stripper do its work. Then scrape away the paint and stripper. Use a rough scrubby to remove the last bits of paint and stripper. Rinse well. Repeat if needed.

Acetone, lacquer thinner, or graffiti remover just use glove and a mask. Use the needle or safety pin (or another sharp object) to pick away stubborn spots of paint. This allows the remover to have better saturation.
Hello Avril,
Use a Craft blade carefully!
What kind of paint? Is it just spattered on or is the whole pot painted?
A light sand blast might do the trick
The type of paint will dictate part of your process. If it's overspray you can try scrubbing with steel wool and soapy water. If more serious than that, I would use something like Citristrip. Worst case, you can paint the pots.
Thank you very much for the response, appreciated💕
