How do you paint galvanized metal?
I bought a Behren's metal tub I want to use for a water feature. How do I paint it inside and out so it doesn't rust? Thanks!

I've seen one idea, but it wasn't easy. I want to spray plastic to appear like galvanized metal as planters.
Hi Lynny, Galvanized metal should not rust. The protective zinc coating (what makes it galvanized and not just metal) should protect it from rusting. If you want to paint it for extra protection I would use an indoor/outdoor paint specifically designed to stop rust like Rustoleum. Hope that helps :)
Galvanized metal CAN rust. Rustoleum makes a spray called cold galvanizing compound you could use for an extra layer of protection but that should not be necessary when the tub is new.
I agree with the first comment. Galvanized metal shouldn't rust at all however if you want to paint it there are lots of oil based metal paints that would work great! Rustoleum is my personal fav :)
Hello. This is a good question not many paints are very waterproof once immersed. I would suggest contacting paint manufacturers for the best options

If it hasn't been dented or scraped, it shouldn't rust. But if you drill into it or otherwise penetrate the protective finish, it will. If that is the case, once you have it customized then re seal it. I would go with a spray sealer.

Hello there,
Use a Metal Primer on first and then any colour you want. Enjoy!
I have galvanized tubs and they sit outside all four seasons in a very rough climate and they've never rusted. You could use a sealer I suppose, but I would go with clear, otherwise eventually your paint will chip.
A good exterior spray paint with a clear finish should work. I love Behren's metal tubs as well!
An exterior paint and then a clear coat
