Hi Barbara, teal and gray can definitely compliment each other. What color are the walls. If they're also a dark color you may consider going for a lighter cabinet color. Is this in a bathroom?
Keeping mind that the type of lighting that you have in the room can change the perceived paint color on your walls and cabinet, before you choose your paint colors, I would suggest that you first change your lighting to new LED, which is most clear. The 'old' incandescent lighting casts a yellowy tone on to walls, and florescent casts a greenish tone on to walls, which can change how a paint color looks after it is applied.
Here are a couple of examples to show how much different the paint colors on the wall can appear just by changing the type of lighting in the room:
Go and get some paint chips, hang them up and look at them at various times of the day. See which color works best in your kitchen and what you like best.
Maybe a white

I painted my bathroom Sherwin Williams light french gray and it pairs well with teal. My previous bed linens were teal.
I think another shade of gray, perhaps lighter would work.
Med. gray would look fabulous with teal and accent in the kitchen with yellow items
Eather a darker gray or black
A nice creamy color like Sherwin Williams alabaster would be nice. I always paint a section with a paint sample so I can see how different types of light change the color. Then, if I like it, I commit to using that color. Good luck!
I would go with white, however, you can get large peel and stick paint samples to try and get a better visual.
White,gray,black,
What is painted light teal? The cabinets???
White
White cabinets,or Black,or a charcoaled gray.
Gray looks great with any color, especially teal. Just continue the gray over by the cabinets.
I rally think that gray and teal would really work together.
