Tub surround?
We have a fiberglass tub surround from the 1990's. It's looking a bit worn not to mention dated. I can't afford to replace right now. Can it be painted? If so, how or can it be tiled over? If so, how. I think tiles might be a hassle since it has two seats and two soap "shelves". However, I would consider if it's possible.

Hello Janet, here's a link about resurfacing a shower and tub surround. It might be the best and also easiest upgrade to your bathroom. I think the tile applied to the plastic isn't the best idea but I've never tried it. I have installed tile as a backsplash, bathroom walls, etc. with concrete baker board as a base. Maybe some semi-pro tile installers will weigh in here with advice. Here's the link:

You can paint bathtubs and surrounds. Here are some Hometalk projects that show how to do it.

How do I apply peel 'n stick tiles to a vinyl tub/shower surround?
We went gold to white on a similar situation. Used the RustOleum kit for tub and tile kit. Follow directions exactly and vent the area well. Wear respirator and have two people.

Yes. Check at the paint counter. They will show you which paint to use. Also you can add some decorative tile to it. Perhaps even a row or two all around. Look into Eco Prim adhesive sold online or many floor tile places. You can glue tile to tile with it!!
A line of a bright color with smaller thin strips of tile edging would really make a difference or a row of a tile with a design on it.
Rustoleum makes a kit for resurfacing tub surrounds.
It can be painted, there are kits, Rustoleum makes a decent one. They do look good, but it's a lot of work and you need very good ventilation.
I would not recommend paining it, as it won't stay looking good for long!
Tile and paint likely won't stick. You might look for a kit that is specifically for fiberglass surrounds but know that it's a temporary fix and probably won't last too long.
