What type of light bulbs are you using?
Are they the old kind- incandescent? Could be the bulbs. I got a whole box that was bad. If not you have a short in the fixture.
Light bulbs can burn out quickly for a variety of reasons. The first thing to do if a bulb seems to burn out quickly is check the fixture it’s in. Light fixtures can wear out over time and develop wiring problems that cause the bulbs to fail early. If bulbs are repeatedly burning out quickly in the same light fixture, it’s probably the fixture. Be sure you’re following the fixture manufacturer’s specifications for light bulb wattage, voltage and bulb shape.

call an electrician .. . you may have a short somewhere ...
It may be the way you screw in the bulb. I got this tip from an electrician years ago. I always thought you screwed bulbs in all the way until they are tight. Wrong. I noticed many of my light bulbs going out too often.
he told me to screw the bulb in just far enough for the bulb to turn on. Been doing that ever since and have had no problems.
Jane,
I agree with Naomie and William. They have described the most common causes. A true short circuit would cause your breaker to trip. One other thing you can check is the wire connections on your wall switch. If they have come loose, that could be the source of your problem. Most likely cheap bulbs with thin filaments or the socket itself.
