Put a grid of masking tape over the front of the mirror and then carefully use a rubber hammer in separate places and take off the mirror in sections. Can use a sparkling tool or kitchen spatula to pry under to take off piece by piece.

I hired a glass company to do it, but if you want to DIY it, cover the mirror in packing tape and slip wood shims behind it in any gaps. Use another ship under a pry bar and gently start lifting the mirror off the wall. Be prepared to do some wall repair when you get it off.
In addition to what Ann says... you can put a canvas tarp or old comforter in front of the mirror to catch pieces that might get away from the tape.. THROW away the comforter (glass dust) when done...
After you tape the mirror, get some electrical wire and try to get behind the mirror from the top. Then work your way down until it's loose. You may need a friend to help you because it requires some strength.
