How do you go about restoring an old tricycle?
The tricycle is probably about 30 years old. The handle bars are chrome and badly rusted as well as the rest of it. But it has good tires.

You can have it re chromed at an auto body or custom car shop. If you want to spend big bucks you can have it repainted by them too, but not necessary. There are plenty of diy paint options.
You can remove rust with Bar Keepers Friend, also there is chrome paint you can use to paint over the handle bars to make them look new. I would use Rustoleum paint and spray paint it real well. Hope this helps Ronette.
You can ball up some tin foil and run that over the rust. I did that on my Dad's walker. Amazing how much stuff came off. The walker is new looking now.
Ronette, Sand the handle bars with steel wool, and the rest of the bike too. Next you'll need a primer. Go to Home Depot or Lowe's, or a bicycle shop for some extra help. Aloha.
