How can I restore old pencil erasers.? All they do now is smear.

Once a year a buy a new eraser at the dollar store.
They have deteriorated, there's nothing to do
Rub them gently on fine sandpaper. William, if this doesn't work, come back and we'll try again!
Once they get hard and brittle they will smear. Buy new.
