It's not a beginner's task but that said, it's totally possible to do. I recently did a bathroom floor and while it's not perfect, it's better than I expected. If you want perfect and different and you have never tiled before, you need a professional.
It really is not difficult. Watch some videos and see if you think you can do it. I've done it just by watching someone else do it.
Forget the pros. You'll never know how until you try. Home Depot has free workshops on different projects. Check out what they have and learn how to do all kinds of things.

need a really firm base. tile will crack it you have any bend. maybe use small tiles. less chance of cracking. lots of DIY sites available.
