I have large tall filecabinets that are being thrown away. Is there anything else I can do with with them besides. Taking them to the dump.

Have the footboard which is the mate to my full size headboard. Not going to use it for its “real” purpose. I’ve seen hooks added so you can hang things on it. ... See more

Filing Cabinet-Turned-Garage Organization
One of mine holds supplies for mini gardens / fairy gardens. I have it full of different rocks, gravel, sand, shells and all the little do dad accessories that I pick up here and there. The one I scored is on wheels! I roll it out to my patio where I work on them, then roll back into my garage.
At my old house we used one in the corner in the kitchen with a bulletin board above and was the family message center. Holds phone books (yes we still use them!), paper, pens, scissors, ruler, etc. Since there were already multiple outlets there installed by the very thoughtful previous owner, the top drawer is now a cell phone and tablet charging station as well. Drilled some holes in the back of the cabinet and fed the labeled cords through the back. Charging while being out of sight and never misplaced.
We have 3 of them in our garage, they are lateral with 4 drawers each that we got from a college surplus sale for less than $10. each ($25 for the 3). One entire cabinet is for outdoor: drawer 1 = leaf blower and all of its parts, #2 = trimmer and its parts and anything else that cuts or trims, #3 = water & holds pressure washer hoses, reg. hoses, sprayers, #4 = clean rags, buckets, bottles, and fluids for the power equipment. Cabinet 2 is for wood & metal tools: drawer 1= sanders and papers that you need for them, #2 holds larger hand saws, and their parts, #3 power nailers, staplers, power screw driver, joiner and all of the things that are used with them, #4 = power cutters like a jig saw, router, dremel with everything you need for each tool. The last one is for car parts because we are restoring a car and kept loosing the bits. We are considering getting one more, a vertical, for emergency prep and camping gear (in our house it's the same thing) which will be contained in duffel bags for easy transport. We like it better than open shelving because it stays cleaner and easier to clean, less cluttered looking, because you pull out the drawer you can us the space more efficiently, our cabinets lock so the kids can't access them without permission, and for the price you can't beat it.
I've also seen the vertical cabinets as planters with various decoration; rubber mat glued to the side and painted, stencil, beads glued on to look like nails or studs. I may have to try this myself.
Sewing/craft room for supplies. The 2 drawer with a board across for a work space.
They are a quick, easy, and cheap solution that can meet many needs/wants.
If it is a short they make cute night stands. Give it some spray paint and add some wood to the top and you have a nice nightstand or end table.
