Do you have a pic
Please post a picture of the table and the TV. Without seeing the actually style and dimensions of what you are working with, it is hard to offer suggestions as to how to best go about this project.
If the table has three thin legs, replace them with sturdier legs. Sand the table to remove rough edges, old gum, or anything else that shouldn’t be there then clean the table everywhere with Dawn, ammonia, and warm water, or with CLR, and don’t forget the legs. Stain the new legs to match the tabletop if you wish; restain the tabletop. Or paint all surfaces. Use metallic paint on the hardware or paint the hardware to match the rest. Finish with a couple of coats of polyurethane, and let it rest 3 days. I would not put more than 15# on the table with the original legs, or 25# if you properly installed new sturdier legs. That would be your tv, DVD player—anything else you add to the table. Weigh your tv first if you have any question about the weight. Those tables were very handy. I don’t know why they went out of fashion. Best wishes ☺️
