What????
They are recyclable at most groceries stores, Target, Walmart. The bin is usually at the front entrance.
I use them as trash can liners and to put cat litter scoopings in. I know they still end up in the landfill, but at least they are used.
I, too, use them for same reasons but wanted another useful project to keep them out of landfill! thanks tho
This idea is for thin plastic nags. Cut off the handles and the seam at the bottom and you have a tube start at the top and cut in at a gebtil angle until you are about 2" from the edge and continue to cut in a spiral. Start to roll it in a ball just like yarn. Start another on your roll and no need to tie knots or anything, just hold the new strip in place and wind on. It takes about 25 to make a grocery tote. When you have about the number you think you need you can start to knit or crochet with your up-cycled yarn. I usually crochet a rectangle the size of bag I want to finish up with. if you want a deep gusset I would do that next and instead of sewing it on, crochet it onto the rectangle by starting at the top and working around three sides. Decide how wide a handle or handles to be and again crochet it on to the other side of the gusset. If you just want a regular bag you would start your second rectangle crocheting it to the first along the three sides. This makes it so much stronger than sewing on. To start your new ball of yarn just roll the two tapered ends together and the stitches will keep the join strongly together. You can get creative and add a flap with a button to close it. My friend made a great handbag for her daughter with two separate sections and a pocket inside. She used a flap with a magnetic closer. You can make lots of things with it when you get going. My original tote bag is still going and it's at least 25 years old. I did it in white bags and then I added coloured stripes as the "yarn" the stripes were made from was made from a grocery store whose bag was always navy and red. I've been told you can make great bath mats this way but I never fancies walking on the texture with bare feet! I'm sure you could all come up with different projects for this plastic bag yarn.
