A picture of the totes would help.

I have several large rectangular crates and baskets that our cats like to sleep in... I put them on the top of chests, trunks and bookshelves and fill them with fleece squares (a 1 yard piece ) that I either make or find on sale ( Lots of places have fleece throws or baby blankets for $5 or so) that the cats love to sleep in and they are easy to wash and dry regularly.

Hi Dianna, I saw a lady cut a hole in her tote and then put in an inexpensive styrofoam cooler (the cooler was about half the size of the tote) she cut a hole in the cooler too so any cat would go straight into the cooler, through the hole in the tote, from the outside. She wrapped the cooler with insulation that fit between the tote and the cooler and then she put a blanket in the cooler for the cat to sleep in.

Winter shelter for outside cats made with totes..

    Tote

Styrofoam cooler (to fix tote )

    Straw..

Cut a entrance and escape door..on both.

    (On opposite ends)

Stuff straw between cooler and and tote..leaving doors opening clear.

Fill inside cooler with straw..for bedding.

Never use anything that is cloth .Blankets..towels ect.and hay. They absorb moisture and freeze..

    ALWAYS USE STRAW..!!!
