Do you like the distressed look that is so popular today? If so, use chalk paint in a color that you would like to show a little bit. Let it dry then paint with the 'main' color. Before you paint that coat, you can put Vaseline over the spots where you want it distressed or you can light sand it after it's painted. The sanding will take off the top coat and let the second one show through. Distress parts that would normally show wear. You could also put gold or silver leaf around the highlights of the ornate part or dry brush to highlight some of those areas.
Good luck
I know a designer who made the most awesome wall display using nothing but interesting picture frames arranged in a way pleasing to your eye. Painted the same color as the wall itself! Texture, architectural design, shape, subtle yet makes a powerful impact. have fun!
Pushed button before could add a pic to above post! Just an example I found online. My neighbor used the exact color of the walls on the frames!
I would suggest hanging wire anchored on each side with an eye bolt (find various sizes at a home store). Make sure the eye bolt is short, but study, and does not come through the front and damage the frame. Definitely, find a wall stud or studs to anchor a heavy duty screw or screws into for the wire to rest on.
Put a mirror in it a lay it flat on a table . Place several candles on it. The effect is lovely .
thank you all
I have seen large frames with multiple family pictures mounted under mat-board with ovals for each. Pre-cut ovals wouldn't be too expensive. If it's an antique frame I would put my ancestors photos in it.
