Why save newspapers

Most people toss in their recycle bin. I save them to use for messy projects. Then toss in recycle bin. I also use to wash windows or place in something old to aid in odor removal. Place in the bottom of my cat boxes. Here are more uses for them!

Newspaper is great for in gardens I've heard as a mulch and weed stopper!

To clean window with (they leave them streak free). To use as a weed barrier. To line bird cages. Use to put down on floors in place of painters tarp. Make good fire starters if you have a wood stove. Or because you are a hoarder.

I always have some on hand, They come in very handy when you have to do things like repot plants, I am not going to do that when it is so cold in the garage and outdoors. I also use them in the bottom of the bird cage to make cleaning it easier, there are bars everything falls through onto the paper. I also put them down when I am cleaning some things like silver, etc. to keep the area cleaner. I used them to cover the screens and windows when we painted our new screen door with Rustoleum spray paint. No paint on either the screen or the windows when we were done. They just come in too handy to not save some somewhere. I keep them under my bed, as that is where I read the newspaper each night.

They also make great packing material when sending packages.

I don't save too many, but it is useful to keep a few around.

I've used them to make seedling planters. When they are ready to be planted into pots or into the ground, you can put the whole newspaper 'pot' into the soil. It will break down over time and add to the nutrients.

Recently I used some torn newspaper pieces to fix a very large broken pot. The pot wasn't completely broken but had some shards chipped off and a large crack down one side. I made a mixture of craft (white) glue and water, soaked the newspaper pieces in it, then applied them layer by layer. You can paint over this once it was dry but I chose to put the final layers on using a paper with a similar colour and texture to the pot so I wouldn't need to do this.
