Is it possible to take your old closet doors on hinges and reuse them to make them into sliding doors?

Sliding doors are hung from special hardware, and go into a wall cavity, it’s a pia. They get off track very easily. You might be better off hanging a barn style door over the opening.

You'll have to try to find a track system to fit your old doors and openings. Could get into more than you want to change out, plus retro fit doors always have issues. Can't use a barn doors, they will be too short because they mount above door frame.

Yes, thanks. I also don’t have a wall beside one of the closets, so barn doors are a no go.

Sliding doors do not necessarily have to be hung on hardware that is hidden in a pocket, or wall cavity.

They can be hung from hardware mounted on the outside of the wall.

Thank you very much. This is pretty much what I was looking for.
