You could white wash them and change the hardware at the same time. If you want to keep the wood look and they aren't covered with a veneer layer you could restain them a different shade while still letting the wood grain show. If you want to completely cover them there is always paint. But whatever you do don't forget new hardware.

Paint is easiest. Adding moulding to make a new look is another option. Do you have a photo?
You could white wash with white paint or another color, do this in an inconspicuous area.
