Hi ! Since the the room colors are on the dark side I would use either beige or white sheer or light weight curtains . You can leave them plain or You can go to any store that sells ribbon and find a ribbon that matches the burning color of your wall , then sew or use fusion tape that uses the best of your iron to fuse instead of sewing ! To the top of bottom for the curtain .
You need to lighten up the area big time! Use the trim color as your guide - but very light gray, not charcoal. If you want curtains with a pattern, make the gray the major color with just a touch of the burgundy or even a pale color in a reddish tone. If there are other colors in the room, you can also go with a pale version of that. (like the color of the table or china cabinet) And next time supervise before he gets out the paintbrush!
I would go with a light creamy white
How did he decide to paint without your input on color selection?
Unless that room is full of windows, it needs something to cheer it up. Pull other colors from the room that would coordinate. I would go with a print of some sort as too many solid colors can make it appear dull, boring and listless.
I used a merlot color in my office. I stumbled over these curtains at Target.

Even though the description says "red/orange" it is completely different in person.
I agree with the light(est) gray curtains … and cover up as much of the charcoal as possible. I hope your dining room set is light/whitewashed …. at least the chairs. I love red hues in the dining room but struggling with the charcoal trim. Hope it turns out well.
i'd go with a palest grey for the curtains. Remember, grey's are either blue based or yellow based. If you mix blue based grey's with yellow, the color will seem a bit off and visa versa.
I read in a decorator article that any room should contain no more than 3 predominant colors. If you already have something in the room in a third color you like, I would try to pick up that color. If not, you could look for a patterned curtain that picks up little bits of those two colors, but emphasizes a major color you like. I try to carry paint chips of my colors, or try to get a true color match on my phone camera for shopping purchases.
I would go for white or pale grey.
If it was me I would choose a light grey. You need something to lighten the room. Next time you are at the store go to the paint section and pick our some different shades of grey on their paint chips. Bring them home and hold them up and see what works best.
Hello there,
Try to choose a curtain fabric that is cream background with the the colours of your room within the design.
