put a open box of baking soda inside -

Try using vinegar. After washing with soap and water, pour vinegar in and let it set for at least a half an hour. Then dump that out and wash again with soap and water. -

I would put some baking soda in it and put the lid on. Let it set overnight. You could do the same thing with charcoal. -

Put newspapers in it and put the lid on. The newspaper removes odors
