Reusable Lunch Bag

While you’re at it, forget about those disposable plastic bags as well. You can make a DIY lunch bag that can be used over and over, without leaving any waste behind! It’s both environmentally friendly and economical!

This tutorial will show you how to sew a DIY reusable lunch bag.

Cut the fabric

For this project, you will need a rectangle piece of main fabric measuring 12 x 30 inches. Also, you will need 5 inches long velcro hook and loop strips. For the finishing touch, you will need 24 inches long bias tape.

Stitch the velcro

Set the fabric horizontally onto your workspace, with its ride side facing up.

Place one velcro strip onto the center of the fabric, around an inch and a half from the side edge. Make sure to set the strip horizontally. Pin it.

Place the second velcro strip on the center as well, but about an inch and a half away from the other side’s edge. Pin it.

Sew all around the velcro strips.

Sew the reusable lunch bag

Fold the fabric in half widthwise with its wrong side in.

Sew around the fabric with a hidden stitch and leave one short side unstitched for the opening of the bag.

Trim down the seam allowance to an eighth of an inch and turn the bag inside out. Sew over the seam one more time.

Box the corners

With the wrong sides out, push the bag along the seam. This will form a triangle corner at the bottom.

Measure two inches above the corner and draw a line perpendicular to the seam. Sew along the line. Repeat on the other corner.

Finish the reusable lunch bag

Turn the bag inside out and place the bias tape along the raw edge of the opening. The tape’s center crease should sit on the raw edge.

Pin the tape to secure it.

Sew around the opening to finish the edge.
